Windmills / Tin Cans / Buried Bottles
These are essentially low tech versions of the Sonic / Sonar stake. The windmill spins around, causing the pole to transmit vibrations into the soil. The rattling can version is simply an empty tin can placed upside down on a 1.5m bamboo cane. The Buried Bottle is just that; take the cap off a bottle and bury it half way in the lawn. The method supposedly works by producing a harmonic as the wind blows over the opening – similar to blowing a flute.
For all of these solutions the same limitations apply as with the electronic versions: they are not long term solutions. Expect area coverage to be even less than with electronic versions. Also, they will only work in the wind. A calm week and the moles will be back for sure!

Verdict
Unless you particularly like the aesthetics of a wind mill or a baked bean can on a bamboo stick in your garden, don’t bother.
